OUR TEAM
"The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will instruct his/her patient in the care of the human frame, in diet, and the cause and prevention of disease."
-Thomas Edison
Inner Garden Health Functional Medicine was founded by Dr. Katie OBrien to create a highly personalized, holistic healing experience for our patients. Our mission is to restore each individual to her optimal state of health. As partners in health, we create an individualized, holistic treatment plan that takes into account each patient’s unique internal and external environments.  In addition to performing advanced diagnostic testing and interpretation, we acknowledge and treat drivers of disease and create a long term sustainable roadmap to optimal health now and for years to come.
Dr. Kathleen OBrien, MD MPH, IFMCP
Physician and Owner
Dr. Kathleen (Katie) graduated from University of Massachusetts Medical School followed by residency in Emergency Medicine at University of Arizona. She then completed two fellowships- one at University of Arizona and another at Harvard University- where she was academic faculty at both. Additionally, she received her Masters in Public Health from T.S. Chan Harvard School of Public Health. She is board certified in Emergency Medicine and has practiced medicine worldwide for nearly 20 years. Having treated over 100,000 patients in her ER career, Dr. Katie recognizes the profound and devastating effects that poor diet, poor lifestyle choices and unaddressed stress can wreak. She also knows that the inverse is true: healthy habits and informed daily decisions are the path to optimal health. Â
In 2018 Dr. Katie became a Certified Practitioner in Functional Medicine (IFMCP) through Institute for Functional Medicine and has since completed additional Clinical Nutrition training from Kara Fitzgerald ND and Cheryl Burdette ND, highly respected leaders in the fields of Functional Medicine and Naturopathy. Additionally, she has received extensive training in bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy from Hormonal Health Institute.
Dr. Katie deeply believes in our innate female wisdom and capacity to heal. Dr. Katie sees herself as a bridge between conventional and integrative medical philosophies and an ally, interpreter and guide for women interested in dramatically improving their health. In her free time she can be found rock climbing, body building, skiing, fly fishing, mountain biking or trying to catch and snuggle her son Ace.Â
Lindsey Ranzer, PT, DPT, FMCHC, NBC-HWC
Lindsey is a Functional Medicine and Nationally Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach with a passion for guiding individuals on their journey to vibrant health and vitality. Growing up a dancer and avid outdoor adventurist, from a young age Lindsey was passionate about health and wellness. It was this passion that led her to pursue a career as a physical therapist.
After working in hospitals for over 10 years, Lindsey became frustrated watching her patients
suffer from chronic diseases only to be treated with pharmacology and medical devices.Â
Patients were being viewed by the poor functioning of their individual body systems and not as a whole person with lifestyle struggles that were contributing to their poor physical and mental health. Lindsey also believed that body, mind and spirit are all integral parts of healing and wellness. She strongly desired to practice evidence-based healthcare that incorporated all three.
She received her health coach training at the prestigious Functional Medicine Coaching Academy where she acquired in-depth knowledge of functional medicine principles, including personalized nutrition, lifestyle modification, and root-cause analysis. Her approach to health coaching is client-centered, compassionate and holistic.
Lindsey partners with her clients to address the root causes of their health challenges, using
evidence-based functional medicine principles to implement personalized wellness plans that
support their unique needs and goals. Whether it’s through nutritional guidance, stress and
sleep management techniques, or movement plans, Lindsey has dedicated her practice to
empowering her clients to take charge of their health and live life to the fullest.Â
Lindsey lives in Bend, Oregon with her husband, 2 young children and Australian Shepherd. She is still an avid outdoor adventurist and enjoys taking dance classes in her spare time. When not coaching patients, she can be found with her family rock-climbing, hiking, kayaking, or skiing down the slopes of Mt. Bachelor.
